One Room Challenge: Week 6

week 6 ORC.png

As we slide into Week 6 updates on the One Room Challenge… we are slowly creeping along. Because we are renovating a bedroom above one our current short term rentals, we have to be mindful of noise. Yep.. apparently guest with young kids don’t really want to hear nail guns, cutting wood and hammering of floors during their vacay. So unfortunate for us that we didn’t think to block out the dates so close to our finish date. But this week we finally completed the floors and they are glorious. Absolutely GLORIOUS. We are playing around with filling the holes with wood fill and the brand that we used was much too light for the flooring. So we are working out a way to make the fill darker and matching the floors. Stay tuned for what crazy solution we come up with.

This week we also worked on the window framing and they are also really taking shape. We are using drywall to create shadowing of depth on the windows. We will be installing the flex trim after we are sent the correct size ( oh amazon).

This week we also worked on the closet details and have built one closet so far and have finalized the design and the materials. It’s going to be an Ikea hack so stay tuned for the details next week on how we complete this project.

We are also moving onto the wall that the bed sits on. It’s by far the most challenging part of the room because of the window off to the side, making it a little awkward to put a bed against due to the bed not being centered. AND THEN… we had the most brilliant idea of incorporating the window into the headboard design.

We will be using some PVC pipes cut in half to create a fluting texture on the upper part of the wall and using drywall to build out the headboard curves. We are also diy’ing the bed frame with PVC pipes. It’s going to be so good. Here is my really rough drawing of the bedroom wall.

The window will have a sheet of wood over it as if it were a shutter that opens. But will blend with the other half of the wall’s design. We are so excited and a little nervous to see with we can pull this off.

We are praying that this week of what feels like lost time will be made up (hopefully not by pulling all nighters). Lets chat next week to see what progress we made.

Don’t forget to check out all the other designers progress on the ORC blog
